Most eye care centers engage in “supplemental billing” (meaning they receive money from the B.C. Medical Services Program AND they charge extra fees to children and seniors). We simply DO NOT do that. Why? Well, we feel strongly that all children and seniors deserve low-cost eyecare all year long! We do it because we truly care about our kids and we want to make sure that everyone can afford to provide their children with annual eye exams. We simply believe it is the right thing to do.

IMPORTANT
Optometrists and Eye Doctors need to check your child’s eyes every single year through their 18th birthday. Kid’s Eye exams can begin as early as 6 months, but usually between 1 and 3 years old.
There is no doubt that getting regular kid’s eye exams is critical for both identifications of issues as well as treatment of conditions. The eyes are how your child learns and sees the world. We must do all we can for our children – for they are (literally) our future.

Poor Vision Prevents Learning
Remember that appropriate vision testing at an early age is vital to insure your child has the visual skills he or she needs to perform well in school.
A child who is unable to see print or view a blackboard can become easily frustrated, leading to poor academic performance. Some vision problems, such as lazy eye, are best treated if they are detected and corrected as early as possible while the child’s vision system is still developing.
Be sure to tell your eye doctor if your child has or displays any of the following:
- A history of prematurity
- Delayed motor development
- Frequent eye rubbing
- Excessive blinking
- Failure to maintain eye contact
- Inability to maintain a fixed gaze while looking at objects
- Poor eye tracking skills
